A M King brings Christmas to Local Foster Children
Project Joy is a collaborated effort between the Charlotte Observer and Mecklenburg County Youth and Family Services to provide Christmas to our area foster children. The idea started with Tommy Tomlinson, a Pulitzer Price winning columnist for the Charlotte Observer back in 2001 and has grown each year. Since many foster children move from home to home and many foster families do not have the extra funds to provide gifts at Christmas, Project Joy is a way to bring these children joy during the holiday season.
After reading about Project Joy in the newspaper, Brian King knew this was something A M King needed to support. Starting in 2006, A M King donated $25,000 towards that support. In 2007, A M King not only wanted to show their support, but to encourage other area businesses to become involved. A M King offered to match all corporate donations up to $40,000. Although those donations did not reach the mark, A M King presented Tommy and three wonderful ladies from Youth and Family Services a check for the $40,000 at a luncheon hosted in their honor.
