  • A M King Construction is now recognized as an Accredited Quality Contractor through the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.  This accreditation speaks to A M King Construction’s consistency in corporate responsibility and commitment to quality, safety, employee benefits, training, and community relations. This AQC designation also aligns with A M King Construction’s “client-focused” business philosophy and the company’s approach to provide their clients with the highest quality construction services and their employees and community at-large with exceptional care. 


  • A M King Construction adopted Angels for the Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree Program. Each employee of A M King Construction was given the opportunity to expand their generosity by giving new toys and clothing to less fortunate boys and girls in the Charlotte area.

    This is A M King's third year volunteering for Angel Tree and our employees are excited to continue their Angel Tree outreach efforts for many years to come

  • This Friday, November 11th, A M King Construction employees will volunteer their time to help the Ronald McDonald House with their Red Shoe Shootout Sporting Clays Tournament. The event will be held at the Fork Farm and Stables in Norwood, North Carolina.

  • A M King would like to congratulate Northeast Foods for their achievement of receiving Baking Management's Innovative Bakery of the Year Award. Northeast Foods is utilizing many new ground breaking technologies that have just entered the market. A M King was pleased to have provided the design and construction of this fully automated bakery for Northeast Foods located in Clayton, North Carolina.   • A M King will be attending the International Association of Cold Storage Construction annual conference in Las Vegas November 3-6, 2011. Partner, Brian King serves on the board of directors for the organization and will be joining over 200 other industry professionals to discuss and learn about the latest trends, regulations, and technologies impacting cold storage construction. The conference provides an array of exhibitors, keynote speakers, and focus sessions to further educate attendees and address the future for cold storage construction.

  • A M King was asked to participate in Baking and Snack’s annual construction report. We were asked to give our professional expertise on state of the baking industry as it pertains to new construction, expansions and renovations as well as sustainability initiatives. See the article here.

  • Process Expo is a global trade show for leaders in the food and beverage industry. Attendees come to learn of the latest trends, see demonstrations of the latest food processing and packing technology and address issues affecting the food and beverage industry. This year A M King Construction will be exhibiting at booth #108. Process Expo will be held in Chicago, IL November 1-4.

  • A M King Construction Completes Fastest Fully Automated Bakery in the World for Northeast Foods in Clayton, North Carolina.


    The project consisted of a 103,000 square foot Greenfield facility that features a 70,000 square foot fully automated bakery, a 13,500 square foot by 56 feet high minus 10 degree Fahrenheit freezer that utilizes an automated racking system.  The facility also consists of administrative offices, employee welfare areas, dry and liquid ingredient rooms and an engine room which houses state of the art ammonia refrigeration systems.  The building materials used for the facility include tilt-up concrete walls, insulated metal panels and a structural steel framing system.   • A M King breaks ground and begins construction on the largest cold storage distribution center under construction in the United States. Located on a 46-acre Brownfield site, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, A M King was selected to provide General Contracting Services for a new 840,000-square-foot climate controlled food distribution facility.


    The facility consists of 770,000 square feet of cooler and freezing space with temperatures ranging from 55° to -20°, a 20,000-square-foot ice facility and a three-story, 45,000-square-foot Class A office space. The facility will also contain a refrigeration engine room that houses a cutting-edge, 2700-ton, ammonia refrigeration system.
    The distribution center’s climate controlled space includes over 20,000 product storage rack positions, 11 banana ripening rooms, and 84 dock stations with full vertical levers. Future plans for the facility include an ice plant that will provide 75-tons of ice per day.


  • A M King volunteered their time and services at the Ronald McDonald House Friday, August 12th for the day! A M King organized and took inventory for items such as perishable foods, toys for all ages of children, and cleaning materials for the Ronald McDonald House.

  • A M King is attending the annual Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) Assembly of Committees in Washington D.C., July 30th – August 2nd, 2011.
     
    As active and invested members of the GCCA, AM King is participating in this collaborative conference to strategize and solve critical industry challenges with fellow members of the association.  The conference provides A M King with a broad platform to contribute and learn through both working committee meetings and educational forums.   Involvement in this event is vital to the success of the association and the industry at large.


  • A M King Construction has teamed with McVeigh & Mangum to work as a design build team for future enterprises. McVeigh and Mangum is a full-service engineering firm who focus’ on structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, LEED, and commissioning design services in the sectors of commercial, educational, governmental, hospitality, industrial, manufacturing, medical, religious, and retail facilities. In addition, McVeigh and Mangum is pleased to be one of the leading innovators in utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) design software. With corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida McVeigh & Mangum is pleased to announce its newest regional location in the same office building as A M King.   • A M King Construction received the site permit for the ALDI Warehouse Expansion in Batavia, IL on May 17th. The project consists of a 60,000 SF cold storage expansion to an existing facility. A M King will expand the existing ammonia refrigeration system including replacement of the existing controls system, provide new electrical service and stand-by generator, and complete necessary offsite storm-water drainage improvements. The project is scheduled for completion in April 2012.

  • It may be a down market for construction, but not for A M King. Specilization in the construction industry is key and A M King is an expert when it comes to food processing facilities and cold storage distribution. See The Charlotte Observer article dated Sunday, June 12th.

  • Mark Mullinax, with 30 years of experience, has joined A M King Construction and will serve as a Project Superintendent for the Ingles project in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

  • Kevin Franz, a LEED accredited architect with more than 17 years of experience, has joined A M King Construction and will serve as their in-house architect. Franz has won numerous awards, including placement in the World Architectural Festival in Barcelona, and has been featured in and has written/edited several publications. His experience ranges from Corporate & Commercial Office, Mixed Use, Site Planning, Multi-Family, Retail, Healthcare, Interior Design, Residentail and Civic.

  • A M King volunteered at the Ronald McDonald HouseMay 20 and heledp clean, sort toys, assembled welcome bags and much more!

  • B. Roberts, a regional distributor, preparer and packager of ready-to-eat foods for the grocery and restaurant industry received Certificate of Occupancy. The project consisted of taking an 80,000 SF facility that had previously housed manufacturing and warehousing operations, and converted it into a USDA certified facility for the production of foods for the retail grocery industry

  • The Harvest Time Bread project received Certificate of Occupancy on April 29th, 2011. Located in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, this 30,000 square foot expansion included the addition of two fully automated baking production lines.  The two new lines included tunnel ovens, proofers, scoring stations, spiral freezers, packaging equipment as well as conveying equipment.  A M King provided process layout, architectural design, mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineering as well as general contracting services.  

  • On April 30th, A M King presented a check to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte on behalf of Northeast Foods in the amount of $10,000. Immediately following the presentation A M King participated in the Running for Ronald 5K. The run was made possible thanks to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte's Teen Volunteer Board.

  • A M King would like to welcome Jon Miller to our Preconstruction team.

  • From April 30 - May 4, A M King Construction exhibiedt at the120th IARW-WFLO Annual Convention and Expo in New Orleans, LA. The theme was "Strive for Excellence." It was a call to action for members of IARW-WFLO to renew their focus on best practices, safety standards, quality and service.

  • A M King participated in the ABC Hit & Giggle golf tournament April 15th.

  • A M King is pleased to become affiliated with the American Society of Baking. The ASB focuses on the grain-based food industry and offers the latest education, networking, and leadership opportunities to individuals.

  • The Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas has announced the new Charlotte Council leadership team and Stuart Jernigan has been nominated to be on the Charlotte Council. This is Stuart's fourth year on the council.

  • A M King exhibited at Food Automation & Manufacturing Conference and Expo 2011 in Palm Beach, FL April 3-6. FA&M brings together food and beverage processors and suppliers together for education of the latest trends in the food processing industry.

  • A M King exhibited at BakingTech 2011, an annual conference hosted by ASB. "The best week in baking" was from March 6-9 in Chicago, IL. Over 1,200 people in the commercial baking industry attended the conference.

  • A M King partner, Brian King, was elected to the Board of Directors for IACSC for a three-year term. IACSC is an organization for contractors, engineers, suppliers, cold storage operators, and food processors who are involved in the cold storage industry and can learn about new trends, regulations and technologies.

  • A M King exhibited at the AFFI Frozen Food Convention February 19-23 in San Francisco, CA. The American Frozen Food Institute annual convention brings Retailers and Manufacturers together to build relationships, be informed on emerging issues, and discuss new ideas and challenges facing the frozen food industry.

  • A M King will be volunteered time to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte February 11th by helping sort through storage units and boxing the materials in preparation for shipment to the RMHC.

  • A M King will be exhibited at the GMA-FMI Joint Supply Chain Conference January 30-February 1, 2011 in Orlando, FL. Retailers and Manufacturers come together to build relationships, be informed on emerging issues, and discuss new ideas and challenges facing the supply chain.

  • A M King attended the Winter Fancy Food Show January 16-18 in San Francisco. The Fancy Food show is the West Coast's largest specialty food and beverage event, with over 1,300 exhibitors from 50 countries and 80,000 specialty foods and beverages showcased.
  • A M King Construction would like to congratulate Jason Wenner for becoming the teams newest individual for receiving LEED accreditation. Jason is A M King's fourth employee to become LEED accredited.

  • This Christmas, A M King is once again adopting Angels for the Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree Program. Each employee of A M King is given the opportunity to shop for toys for a less fortunate child. This is A M King's second year adopting Angels.

  • A M King hosted a Subcontractor Appreciation luncheon for the Northeast Foods project December 1, 2010.   • A M King broke ground July 2010 for the Northeast Foods project located in Clayton, NC.   • A M King attended the IACSC Conference and Expo November 4-7 in San Antonio, TX. Contractors, engineers, suppliers, cold storage operators, and food processors who are involved in the cold storage process are invited to attend to learn about new trends, regulations and technologies. 2009
  • A M King is pleased to have hired Tracy Grant as project superintendent. Tracy is currently working as the project superintendent at the regional ALDI, Inc. Distribution Center in Jefferson, GA.

  • In the June 27th edition of the Charlotte Business Journal A M King Construction was ranked as #19 of the Top 25 Area General Contractors.  This is over a 13 county area in North and South Carolina
  • In the April 24th edition of the Charlotte Business Journal, A M King Construction was again ranked as one of Charlotte’s Top 25 Area General Contractors.  This is over a 13 county area in North and South Carolina.  This is A M King Construction's third consecutive year of being selected to this list, and signifies our continued financial strength and growth as one of the largest Construction Companies based in the Carolinas.

  • A M King is proud to be awarded with the ABC Eagle Award for the ALDI, Inc. Distribution Center project located in South Windsor, CT. The Eagle Award is the highest award that can be received in the Excellence in Construction project submittals.

  • A M King is proud to be awarded with the ABC Merit Award for the BTK Holdings Office Renovation project located in Charlotte, NC. The Merit Award is the 2nd highest award which can be received in the Excellence in Construction project submittals.

  • Sterigenics, the global leader in the sterilization of medical devices and supplies has again partnered with A M King in the maintenance of their Charlotte, NC facility and the Willowbrook, IL facility.
  • Foster Caviness, a regional distributor of fresh produce, has engaged A M King to provide renovations to their existing distribution facility in Charlotte, NC, which will consist of converting existing dry storage space to refrigerated storage as well as modifications to their existing perishable space. The work began in May 2009 and is being delivered via design-build.

  • Lance, Inc, one of the largest makers of snack foods in the US, has partnered with A M King at their Charlotte, NC facility. Work completed includes the installation of two new oven lines and a new testing laboratory. A M King will be providing all work necessary for this installation, including both structural and process renovations.

 

2008
  • A M King Construction would like to congratulate Carl Morse on receiving his LEED accreditation as of November 2008. Carl began working with A M King Construction June 2007

  • A M King would like to congratulate Tyler White on receiving his LEED accreditation as of August 2008. Tyler began working with A M King Construction January 2006.

  • A M King Construction attended the International Food Distribution Service refrigeration conference and expo on October 12th and 13th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

  • A M King Construction will team up with Project Joy on December 6th to help with the gift drop off. This is A M King Construction's third year working with Project Joy.

  • A M King Construction is proud to be presented with the ABC Excellence in Construction Merit Award for the expansion and renovation project in Salisbury, NC.
